Indian Cricket: Entertainment or Politics

"India has clearly made cricket a lucrative business material and much of the
matches are decided beforehand, accordingly. The supposedly topmost cricket
teams like Australia, South Africa and West Ind"

It is strange, Indian government does not behave like being committed to common people or meant for people's welfare, but has been there only to serve the interests of big-business houses that brought the government to power. The truth is rulers don't think people have brought them to power and they have reached the position with money and muscle power and with help of transnational and multinational sections operating in the country. The Manmohan government, like the previous BJP-led NDA, supported by the Leftists, promotes the interests of the capitalist forces in and outside the country. It encourages big companies like Reliance mobiles to loot the public with media hypes and booty is obviously being shared by many leading political parties including the ruling ones. This vicious circle operates every where in the country including sports where the outcome is dictated by the mafia and government agencies.

In view of the fact that cricket, and even other sports, is by and large has become a business involving the countries that play and government level agencies decide the outcome of the matches, i.e. match-fixing remains the key feature of cricket where centuries, wickets and even man of match are pre-determined. That means the so-called records set y the sportsmen are suspicious, as many batsmen have also complained that they are not even allowed to get one single run.

India has clearly made cricket a lucrative business material and much of the matches are decided beforehand, accordingly. The supposedly topmost cricket teams like Australia, South Africa and West Indies play willingly to lose to India on some vague understanding according to instructions received form "above". Both Australia and South Africa have recently exposed themselves by allowing centuries and double ones to Indian team and losing quick wickets on "understanding". They have no objections to do so provided it does not spoil their international ratings in test and one-dayers. Indian media just cannot tolerate a win by any cricket team other than Indian in the world; the comments and photos being published in newspapers betray the democratic the real content-cum-intent of Indian media.

The scenario makes one repulsive and sick of watching or writing on cricket as a sport and the general feeling is that cricket, invented and promoted by the colonial powers, cannot but be a game meant to play fraud and mischief with the public. However occasional occurrences in sports like cricket when a sportsperson does make a significant contribution one does risk in writing a few lines , fully unaware of the actual truth about even that performance. A similar situation occurred on 19 April as part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 cricket tournament happening in Indian stadiums, where many sportsmen from abroad are also participating.

Mike Hussey cracked the fastest century in Twenty20 cricket history as Chennai Super Kings pulled off a comfortable 33-run victory over Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League match in Mohali on 19 April, Saturday. Hussey's blistering unbeaten 116 off just 54 balls steered Chennai Super Kings to an imposing 240 for five on a perfect batting strip at the PCA stadium. The Chennai team then restricted the Punjab team to 207 for four to record a win in their opening match which turned out to be a high scoring contest under lights.

The highlight of the innings was the explosive stroke-play by Hussey, who hit as many as 10 sixes and seven boundaries to record an amazing strike rate of 211.11.The likes of Brett Lee, Sreesanth, Irfan Pathan and James Hopes could do nothing to stop the run deluge while the two spinners Piyush Chawla and Karan Goel were little more than cannon fodder. The dismissal of James Hopes (71) brought Chennai back in the game. Hussey's blistering unbeaten 116 off just 54 balls steered Chennai Super Kings to an imposing 240 for five on a perfect batting strip at the PCA stadium.

Electing to bat, the Chennai team took full advantage of a batting track and short boundaries with sixes and fours raining on a hapless Yuvraj Singh-led home team. It was a virtual carnage at the PCA ground as Hussey plundered runs at will to notch up the second century in the tournament in as many days after Brendon McCullum's 158 in the opening match in Bangalore the previous night. Suresh Raina (32), S Badrinath (31) and Matthew Hayden (25) were the other notable scorers for Chennai Super Kings. Kumara Sangakkara (54), Karan Goel (24) and captain Yuvraj Singh (23) were the other batsmen who chipped in with some runs for Kings XI Punjab.

However, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the highest paid player in the landmark auction, could manage just two runs before being trapped leg before by Hopes. But his team-mates made amends for his cheap dismissal with some lusty hitting which helped the team put on a mammoth total. Faced with a stiff asking rate, Kings XI got off to a decent start with Goel and Hopes putting on 56 runs in the first five overs. After Goel's dismissal, Hopes and the experienced Kumar Sangakkara kept up the tempo with some big hits but the run rate slowed down a bit after spin wizard Muthiah Muralitharan was introduced into the attack. Muralitharan's experience came handy as he used a lot of variations and gave away just 33 runs in his quota of four overs.

Kumara Sangakkara (54), Karan Goel (24) and captain Yuvraj Singh (23) were the other batsmen who chipped in with some runs for Kings XI. The Chennai outfit then restricted the home team to 207 for four to record a win in their opening match which turned out to be a high scoring contest under lights. It was a virtual carnage at the PCA ground as Hussey plundered runs at will to notch up the second century in the tournament in as many days after Brendon McCullum's 158 in the opening match in Bangalore last night.

Again on 21 April in Eden garden David Hussey played a crucial unbeaten knock of 38 to help Kolkata Knight Riders secure a five-wicket win over The Aussie turned the game the Knight Riders way with his savage attack on Scott Styris in the 18th over, as he plundered a six and a boundary to bring his side close to victory. Hussey brought up the winning runs with a straight field six off Pragyan Ojha, after a 31-minute stoppage caused by a power failure.

Brendon McCullum's awe-inspiring 73-ball 158McCullum scored 100 from 53 balls during his blazing innings for Kolkata Knight Riders against Bangalore Royal Challengers in the opening match of the IPL. Shahid Afridi, who has since 1997 held on to the record for the fastest one-day hundred from just 37 balls, Pakistan's flamboyant all-rounder Afridi said he would be aiming to better Brendon McCullum's awe-inspiring 73-ball 158. "It is a very difficult target to achieve to better his 158 at a faster rate. But it is not impossible. Certainly if I get a chance to bat higher up the order and get enough overs to play I will give it a try," Afridi told reporters after the Twenty20 international against Bangladesh at the National Stadium in Karachi. But when he made his debut for Hyderabad Deccan Chargers led by Indian batsman VVS Laxman in the Indian Premier League on 22 April against the Delhi Dare Devils in Hyderabad, he faired too bad. The swashbuckling right-hander left for India on Monday to play in tournament and said McCullum's knock is fresh in his mind. Possibly, the bowlers were keen to outsmart his legitimate ambitionsor, has he played as per the instructions from "above"?

The writing on the wall reveals the current trend of bating over taking bowling spree in cricket. But the question remains if what one watches in stadiums, reads and sees in media is indeed real! Who Knows if the color/state of the team that should win the finals and the cricketer to be name the man of match have already been decided by the cricket mafia in the country even before the matches began! ------------------------

25 Tips for Marketing Your Blog

With so many blogs being created every day, it’s a mystery to many bloggers how to make their blog stand out. There are many types of blogs or purposes for blogs and a certain number of tactics are applicable to just about all of them. Some companies choose to hire a blog consultant, but others like to try things internally. For those “DIY” companies and individuals interested in practical tips for marketing and optimizing a business blog, try out the following list of blog marketing and optimization tips:
Decide on a stand alone domain name www.myblog.com or directory of existing site www.mysite.com/blog. Sub domain is also an option blog.mysite.com. Avoid hosted services that do not allow you to use your own domain name!
Obtain and install customizable blog software - WordPress and Moveable Type are my favorites.
Customize blog look and feel templates - aka design.
Research keywords and develop a glossary - Keyword Discovery, WordTracker, SitePoint, SEOBook Keyword Research.
Optimize the blog:
Template optimization - RSS subscription options, social bookmark links, HTML code, Unique title tags, URLs, Sitemap
Add helper plugins specific to WordPress or MT
Create keyword rich categories (reference your keyword glossary)
Enable automatic trackback and ping functionality.
Create Feedburner Pro account and enable feed tracking.
Setup a Google account for Sitemap, validate and prep for future submission.
Identify authoritative blogs, web sites and hubs for outbound resource links and blogroll.

Monitor inbound links, traffic, comments and mentions of your blog - Google Alerts, Technorati, Blogpulse, Yahoo News, Ask Blogs and Feeds.
Always respond to comments on your blog and when you detect a mention of your blog on another blog, thank that blogger in the comments of the post.

When making blog posts always cite the source with a link and don’t be afraid to mention popular bloggers by name. Use keywords in the blog post title, in the body of the post and use anchor text when you link to previous posts you’ve made.
Use social networking services, forums and discussion threads to connect with other bloggers. If they like your stuff, they will link to you.
Remember when web sites were a new concept and the sage advice to print your web address everywhere you print your phone number? The same advice applies for your blog.=============
If your blog’s goal is to promote you as an authority, interview other prominent bloggers in your industry. Your own credibility will improve by association.
Build out your online networks through services such as MyBlogLog, Twitter and Facebook and leverage them to promote particularly useful content on your blog.
Once your blog has 1000 or more subscribers, show your Feedburner badge

10 Creative Traffic Building Ideas

Traffic, everyone wants it and is trying really hard to get more people to their site. Good news, there are creative ways to bring people in without doing a lot of work.
1) Social Bookmarking. It’s been around long enough that some people know all about it and have a tendency to just search del.icio.us or Furl for what they want. Social sites are basically like a user defined search engine. Are you listed? Make sure to bookmark yourself every now and then and add social bookmark links to your blog posts and/or web pages so others can bookmark you too.
2) Use Flickr! Yes, it’s true, the social photo sharing site can drive traffic to your site. I now post all my pictures that I’m going to use in my post to Flickr first, with good tags of course, then I write my blog post. Once I’ve published my post, I copy the post URL and add a note to my Flickr image. I paste in the URL, hit save and it turns into a clickable URL. Now, if people find my stats screenshot on Flickr they’ll see my note and may click on the link back to my site for more information.
3) Read and comment on blogs. TUAW is one of my favorite blogs. Since I’m a Mac geek, it’s a perfect match. Whenever I feel so inclined, I comment on stories. Since I’m able to add a URL when I comment, it gives me a live link. On some stories, I may have something on my site that is related, so I’ll drop in a link to my blog post about the same topic in the comments box. This usually draws decent traffic. Keep in mind, the post you are commenting on and your post must be very related or else it may be seen as spam and deleted.
4) Forums. Use forum signatures to promote your site with a live link. Also reply to topics with good information and maybe a link back to your site for more info and people will visit. Again, you must be sure to give valuable information or people will perceive it as spam.
5) Widgets, Themes and Extensions. It’s true, everyone has Widgets anymore. Apple, Microsoft, Yahoo and the list goes on. And then there are themes and extensions for Firefox. All can be simple to create and quite effective in driving traffic.
6) Friends! Yes, get some friends who feel that you know what you are talking about. Maybe they’ll talk about you on their blog, talk to their friends about you or even interview you. Interviews are all the rage right now.
7) Industry specific sites. As noted above, I’m a Mac geek so I know lots of Mac sites. One in particular is MacBytes. I know that if I write up a review, opinion, some cool scripts or something related to Apple, I can submit my story to them and, if approved, they’ll post a prominent link to my site for all their visitors to click on. I’m sure there are other sites like it out there for cars or baseball or whatever you are interested in.
Guest Poster. As blogs get bigger and more popular, some sites ask for guest posters. If you sign on, they may just let you link to your own site every now and again.
9) Podcasts. Reach those that don’t like to read by giving them an audio or video podcast. If they find your podcast interesting, they may just decide to look you up.
10) Submit your feed. If you have a blog it should be pinging everywhere it can and be submitted to the many blog directories out there. A feed can drive traffic from a site that won’t allow regular websites to be added. And, quite a few of them, don’t come looking for you, you have to submit to them.
In the end, it’s not all about traffic, it’s about giving the user something they think is of value. You could drive thousands of new people to your site, but if you don’t give them a reason to stay, was it really worth it?
My ideas above may not generate tons of traffic, but they are creative ways to drive traffic. Do you have some other ideas?
